Wedding Bells

So, for those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, I’m engaged to be married.  My fiance is a sweet, loving, possibly even nerdier than me gamer, and I love him with all my heart.  We’ve been engaged since February 2nd (Superbowl Sunday!), and our wedding is currently set for September 4th, 2010.  Since the day of our engagement (and actually, for a good while before that) I’ve been thinking about what I want to do for the wedding.  And I have decided a few things…

  1. The Wedding will be elegant
  2. The Wedding will be both traditional and nontraditional
  3. We will write our own vows.  (You hear that, Ben?!)
  4. The overall theme will be “Japanese” or perhaps more accurately “Asian-esque”
  5. I will stuff in as many nerdy things as I can without invoking the wrath of the parents

Now, without getting into too many details about the wedding (because then I’ll just ramble forever), I recently decided that I wanted my younger sister and Ben’s younger sister to sing a duet in the wedding.  They’ll both be bridesmaids, and I think it would be just beautiful to have the two sides of the family come together in melodic harmony like that.  Even more recently, I decided that if I could, I’d have them sing a love song in Japanese.

Today, I began the search for an appropriate song.  I poked through some random websites and came up with nothing.  And then, with a sudden flash of inspiration, there came to me a song.  It hit me like a brick to the face.  Seriously.  I’ve been watching Ai Yori Aoshi lately.  I’ve gotten through the first disk, and I think it’s an absolutely wonderful love story.  I wondered if the anime would hold the gem I was looking for.

And of course, it was the opening theme.  Thanks to Anime Lyrics, I found the Japanese lyrics and the English translation.  (For anyone who doesn’t know about Anime Lyrics, CLICK THAT LINK!  It truly is a fantastic website if you’re not fluent in Japanese and would like to know what your favorite anime or j-pop songs mean.)

So then I headed to YouTube and found the song.  This would be said song.  Below the YouTube video will be the Japanese lyrics and English Translation.  It’s titled “Towa no Hana” which translates to “Flower of Eternity.”  It’s sung by Ishida Yoko.

Original / Romaji Lyrics English Translation
Awaku saita hana no kao
Nokoshi kisetsu wa sugimasu
Ame mo agari sora ni kumo
Aoi kaze ga soyoideru
The seasons move on, leaving
The scent of the flowers blooming pale
The rain has stopped too, clouds in the sky
Are blown gently by the blue breeze
Kyou ashita to futari ga
Aruku toki no katawara de
Kawarazu ni yureteiru
Omoide ga arimasu
Both today and tomorrow
Alongside the times we walk
Our trembling thoughts will be there
Unchanging
Eien wo eien wo
Saitemo karenai
Kono mune no tokimeki wa tsukinai
Dare yori mo dare yori mo
Anata wo mitsumete
Hateshinaku kono kimochi zutto
Forever Forever
It blooms but never dies
The pounding of my heart never ceases
More than anyone, More than anyone
I gaze at you
With this feeling that never ends
Ano hi futari de ata no wa
Sekai jyuu de ikudomeni
Okita kiseki nano desho wo
Dare ni kansha tsureba ii
That day, when we met
How many times in the world
has a miracle like this happened?
Whom shall I thank?
Aa anata no mirai ga
Kitto watashi ni wa ni aito
Sou ienai yoru mo aru
Nakisou ni naru kedo
Ah, I know your future
will be perfect for me
There will be nights when I can’t say it
Although I may cry
Eien wo eien wo
Subite mo asenai
Kaze no naka sora no shita natsu no
Shinjitara shinjitara
Anata no e ga ora
Watashi no hanani naru kara kitto
Forever Forever
It may pass, but it will not fade
In the wind, under the sky, I wait
If I believe If I believe
Then your smile
Will surely become my flower
Eien wo eien wo
Saitemo karenai
Kono mune no tokimeki wa tsukinai
Dare yori mo dare yori mo
Anata wo mitsumete
Hateshinaku kono kimochi zutto
Forever Forever
It blooms but never dies
The pounding of my heart never ceases
More than anyone, More than anyone
I gaze at you
With this never ending feeling

I’m in love with this song. Now the search begins for either sheet music or a cd with the song on it.
